SHE - Sanitation, Hygiene, and Empowerment of the Girl Child
Empowering Girls Through Hygiene: The Mookerji Foundation proudly supports Sewa International’s SHE Project, funding essential sanitation facilities and menstrual hygiene education for adolescent girls in India.
Sewa International’s SHE Project for the Girl Child provides sanitation and hygiene facilities for girls who belong to the vulnerable section of Indian society. Along with sanitation facilities, they also focus on menstrual hygiene and education, empowering women and girls through skill development workshops.
The Mookerji Foundation provides funds for the construction of school restrooms for girls in Mysuru, Karnataka, India. Since 2014, Sewa International has built over 950 restrooms and distributed menstrual hygiene products to over 45,500 adolescent girls across the country. In 2023 alone, 171 restrooms were built country-wide, with 24 of those built in Karnataka.
In September, the Sewa SHE team, along with the civil contractor, visited each of the identified schools to complete the necessary groundwork. They met with school management committees, discussed the project scope and timelines, and finalized the locations within the school premises for the restrooms. Construction has begun as of early October 2024.
